In armpmu_dispatch_irq() we look at arm_pmu::plat_device to acquire
platdata, so that we can defer to platform-specific IRQ handling,
required on some 32-bit parts. With the advent of ACPI we won't always
have a platform_device, and so we must avoid trying to dereference
fields from it.
This patch fixes up armpmu_dispatch_irq() to avoid doing so, introducing
a new armpmu_get_platdata() helper.

Commit da4e4f18afe0 ("drivers/perf: arm_pmu: implement CPU_PM notifier")
added code in the arm perf infrastructure that allows the kernel to
save/restore perf counters whenever the CPU enters a low-power
state. The kernel saves/restores the counters for each active event
through the armpmu_{stop/start} ARM pmu API, so that the low-power state
enter/exit cycle is emulated through pmu start/stop operations for each
event in use.
However, calling armpmu_start() for each active event on power up
executes code that requires RCU locking (perf_event_update_userpage())
to be functional, so, given that the core may call the CPU_PM notifiers
while running the idle thread in an quiescent RCU state this is not
allowed as detected through the following splat when kernel is run with

This patch wraps the armpmu_start() call (that indirectly calls
perf_event_update_userpage()) on CPU_PM notifier power state exit (or
failed entry) within the RCU_NONIDLE() macro so that the RCU subsystem
is made aware the calling cpu is not idle from an RCU perspective for
the armpmu_start() call duration, therefore fixing the issue.

When a CPU is suspended (either through suspend-to-RAM or CPUidle),
its PMU registers content can be lost, which means that counters
registers values that were initialized on power down entry have to be
reprogrammed on power-up to make sure the counters set-up is preserved
(ie on power-up registers take the reset values on Cold or Warm reset,
which can be architecturally UNKNOWN).
To guarantee seamless profiling conditions across a core power down
this patch adds a CPU PM notifier to ARM pmus, that upon CPU PM
entry/exit from low-power states saves/restores the pmu registers
set-up (by using the ARM perf API), so that the power-down/up cycle does
not affect the perf behaviour (apart from a black-out period between
power-up/down CPU PM notifications that is unavoidable).

When an attempt is made to free an event on a CPU which is
no longer online, perf tries to bring the CPU online. This
can fail, resulting in an UP_CANCELLED notifier, which
eventually tries to acquire the ctx->mutex which is already
being held by the code, which brings up the CPU.
Removing the attempt to bring the cpu up will remove this
deadlock, but also requires temporarily removing support of
counting events across hotplug. This will be restored in a
later patch.

Currently perf_event.c is 64bit specific due to
inline assembly. Driver needs to support 32bit as well.
Move the assembly code to asm/perf_event.h so that
perf_event.c is 32/64 bit agnostic and move perf_event.c
to drivers/perf from 64bit-specific arch dir.

Currently the hotplug notifier calls cpu_pmu_enable_percpu_irq
when a CPU comes online. The notifier doesn't have a corresponding
call to cpu_pmu_disable_percpu_irq when the CPU goes offline.
Change the code to follow what was done in 3.18 including
tracking whether the PMU is active and the IRQ number in use.

Commit 573979dee2a7 ("perf: Add support for exclude_idle attribute")
registers an idle callback routine armv8pmu_idle_update. Currently
the idle update routine might be called before the pmu has allocated
all the per_cpu structures. This can result in a null pointer
reference. Change arm_pmu_device_probe to allocate the structures
via cpu_pmu_init() before the init_fn() call (which eventually does the
idle_notify_register call). Change a branch to out_free to
out_destroy as out_free doesn't cleanup what was allocated in
cpu_pmu_init(). Also have armv8pmu_idle_update check that the
structure is not null before using it.

Current code doesn't restart perf after hotplug and power collapse
which makes monitoring in low power modes difficult. This patch adds
support for the hotplug notifier events and creates a common path for
the power collapse and hotplug events.

Commit da4e4f18afe0 ("drivers/perf: arm_pmu: implement CPU_PM notifier")
added code in the arm perf infrastructure that allows the kernel to
save/restore perf counters whenever the CPU enters a low-power
state. The kernel saves/restores the counters for each active event
through the armpmu_{stop/start} ARM pmu API, so that the low-power state
enter/exit cycle is emulated through pmu start/stop operations for each
event in use.
However, calling armpmu_start() for each active event on power up
executes code that requires RCU locking (perf_event_update_userpage())
to be functional, so, given that the core may call the CPU_PM notifiers
while running the idle thread in an quiescent RCU state this is not
allowed as detected through the following splat when kernel is run with

This patch wraps the armpmu_start() call (that indirectly calls
perf_event_update_userpage()) on CPU_PM notifier power state exit (or
failed entry) within the RCU_NONIDLE() macro so that the RCU subsystem

the armpmu_start() call duration, therefore fixing the issue.

Commit c6b90653f1f7 ("drivers/perf: arm_pmu: make info messages more
verbose") breaks booting on systems where the PMU is probed without
devicetree (e.g by inspecting the MIDR of the current CPU). In this case,
pdev->dev.of_node is NULL and we shouldn't try to access its ->fullname
field when printing probe error messages.
This patch fixes the probing code to use of_node_full_name, which safely
handles NULL nodes and removes the "Error %i" part of the string, since
it's not terribly useful.

When a CPU is suspended (either through suspend-to-RAM or CPUidle),
its PMU registers content can be lost, which means that counters
registers values that were initialized on power down entry have to be
reprogrammed on power-up to make sure the counters set-up is preserved
(ie on power-up registers take the reset values on Cold or Warm reset,
which can be architecturally UNKNOWN).
To guarantee seamless profiling conditions across a core power down
this patch adds a CPU PM notifier to ARM pmus, that upon CPU PM
entry/exit from low-power states saves/restores the pmu registers
set-up (by using the ARM perf API), so that the power-down/up cycle does
not affect the perf behaviour (apart from a black-out period between
power-up/down CPU PM notifications that is unavoidable).

ARMv7 counters other than the CPU cycle counter only work if the Secure
Debug Enable Register (SDER) SUNIDEN bit is set.
Since access to the SDER is only possible in secure state, it will

Nothing outside of drivers/perf/arm_pmu.c should call armpmu_register
any more, so it no longer needs to be in include/linux/perf/arm_pmu.h.
Additionally, by folding it in to arm_pmu_device_probe we can allow
drivers to override struct pmu fields without getting blatted by the
armpmu code.
This patch folds armpmu_register into arm_pmu_device_probe. The logging
to the console is moved to after the PMU is successfully registered with
the core perf code.

Hotplug disables the pmu irq, but if counters are
running in the window before the CPU is hotplugged off
they can overflow and generate an interrupt. Because the
interrupt is disabled, this prevents the cpu from going
down.
Events are stopped during hotplug processing. However,
perf is hooked into the timer tick, and restarts enabled
events on every tick, even if they were stopped. Change
the event state to OFF to prevent this.
CPUs can still be power-collapsed while being hotplugged
off, but hotplug processing will save and restore the correct
state, so don't process power-collapse save/restore while
hotplug is in process.
Processing for stop reads the counters, so a separate call
is no longer needed. Start processing re-enables events so
the from_idle flag is not needed during pmu_enable.

PMU irq is disabled when a cpu is hotplugged off
and perf is running. Using cpu_pmu->active_events
to determine if the pmu is running left a window
where it is decremented to 0 in hw_perf_event_destroy,
and then armpmu_release_hardware is called. If a cpu
is hotplugged off in this window it may not disable
its irq. Use a separate flag which is not cleared
until after the irq is released by all online cpus.
The variable needs to be tristate because of the possibility
of a cpu being hotplugged in during this window. In that
case it should not enable its irq when the pmu is being
shut down. Having the GOING_DOWN state allows correct
behavior for cpus both going down and coming up.

Preserve counters and user enables across these events.
Disable and enable interrupts across events.
This allows perf-events to be used in an environment where
cores are power collapsing and being hotplugged.

Bring all cores online before doing a force reset for PMU.
This is required in order to handle corner case related to
freeing of IRQs for offline cores.

Create debugfs node to clear PMU and some internal variables
used by Perf code. This provides the user with a recovery
path in case of PMU related unexpected error scenarios.

Pull arm64 updates from Catalin Marinas:
- "genirq: Introduce generic irq migration for cpu hotunplugged" patch
merged from tip/irq/for-arm to allow the arm64-specific part to be
upstreamed via the arm64 tree
- CPU feature detection reworked to cope with heterogeneous systems
where CPUs may not have exactly the same features. The features
reported by the kernel via internal data structures or ELF_HWCAP are
delayed until all the CPUs are up (and before user space starts)
- Support for 16KB pages, with the additional bonus of a 36-bit VA
space, though the latter only depending on EXPERT
- Implement native {relaxed, acquire, release} atomics for arm64
- New ASID allocation algorithm which avoids IPI on roll-over, together
with TLB invalidation optimisations (using local vs global where
feasible)
- KASan support for arm64
- EFI_STUB clean-up and isolation for the kernel proper (required by
KASan)
- copy_{to,from,in}_user optimisations (sharing the memcpy template)
- perf: moving arm64 to the arm32/64 shared PMU framework
- L1_CACHE_BYTES increased to 128 to accommodate Cavium hardware
- Support for the contiguous PTE hint on kernel mapping (16 consecutive
entries may be able to use a single TLB entry)
- Generic CONFIG_HZ now used on arm64

Now that the arm_pmu framework has been factored out to drivers/perf we
can make use of it for arm64, gaining support for heterogeneous PMUs
and unifying the two codebases before they diverge further.
The as yet unused PMU name for PMUv3 is changed to armv8_pmuv3, matching
the style previously applied to the 32-bit PMUs.

of_cpu_device_node_get increments the reference count on the CPU
device_node, so we must take care to of_node_put once we've finished
with it.
This patch fixes the perf IRQ probing code to avoid the leak.

To enable sharing of the arm_pmu code with arm64, this patch factors it
out to drivers/perf/. A new drivers/perf directory is added for
performance monitor drivers to live under.
MAINTAINERS is updated accordingly. Files added previously without a
corresponsing MAINTAINERS update (perf_regs.c, perf_callchain.c, and
perf_event.h) are also added.
