The first one appears to be bogus and after fixing the second one, the first one is gone. WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o(.text+0x529adc): Section mismatch in reference from the function sonic_get_stats() to the function .init.text:set_reset_devices() The function sonic_get_stats() references the function __init set_reset_devices(). This is often because sonic_get_stats lacks a __init annotation or the annotation of set_reset_devices is wrong. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ Upstream commit 9e311820f67e740f4fb8dcb82b4c4b5b05bdd1a5 ] The SONIC can sometimes advance its rx buffer pointer (RRP register) without advancing its rx descriptor pointer (CRDA register). As a result the index of the current rx descriptor may not equal that of the current rx buffer. The driver mistakenly assumes that they are always equal. This assumption leads to incorrect packet lengths and possible packet duplication. Avoid this by calling a new function to locate the buffer corresponding to a given descriptor. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread.
