* media: usbtv: Fix deadlock on suspendMaxim Mikityanskiy2021-03-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 8a7e27fd5cd696ba564a3f62cedef7269cfd0723 upstream. usbtv doesn't support power management, so on system suspend the .disconnect callback of the driver is called. The teardown sequence includes a call to snd_card_free. Its implementation waits until the refcount of the sound card device drops to zero, however, if its file is open, snd_card_file_add takes a reference, which can't be dropped during the suspend, because the userspace processes are already frozen at this point. snd_card_free waits for completion forever, leading to a hang on suspend. This commit fixes this deadlock condition by replacing snd_card_free with snd_card_free_when_closed, that doesn't wait until all references are released, allowing suspend to progress. When disconnecting the usbtv device, the sound card is unregistered from ALSA and the snd member of the usbtv struct is set to NULL. If the usbtv snd_trigger work is running, this can cause a race condition where the kernel will attempt to access free'd resources, shown in [1]. This patch fixes the disconnection code by cancelling any snd_trigger work before unregistering the sound card from ALSA and checking that the snd member still exists in the work function. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The vb2 core ignores any return code from the stop_streaming op. And there really isn't anything it can do anyway in case of an error. So change the return type to void and update any drivers that implement it. The int return gave drivers the idea that this operation could actually fail, but that's really not the case. The pwc amd sdr-msi3101 drivers both had this construction: if (mutex_lock_interruptible(&s->v4l2_lock)) return -ERESTARTSYS; This has been updated to just call mutex_lock(). The stop_streaming op expects this to really stop streaming and I very much doubt this will work reliably if stop_streaming just returns without really stopping the DMA. Reverse-engineered driver for cheapo video digitizer, made from observations of Windows XP driver. The protocol is not yet completely understood, so far we don't provide any controls, only support a single format out of three and don't support the audio device.
