* uapi: export all headers under uapi directoriesNicolas Dichtel2020-06-01
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Regularly, when a new header is created in include/uapi/, the developer forgets to add it in the corresponding Kbuild file. This error is usually detected after the release is out. In fact, all headers under uapi directories should be exported, thus it's useless to have an exhaustive list. After this patch, the following files, which were not exported, are now exported (with make headers_install_all): asm-arc/kvm_para.h asm-arc/ucontext.h asm-blackfin/shmparam.h asm-blackfin/ucontext.h asm-c6x/shmparam.h asm-c6x/ucontext.h asm-cris/kvm_para.h asm-h8300/shmparam.h asm-h8300/ucontext.h asm-hexagon/shmparam.h asm-m32r/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/shmparam.h asm-metag/kvm_para.h asm-metag/shmparam.h asm-metag/ucontext.h asm-mips/hwcap.h asm-mips/reg.h asm-mips/ucontext.h asm-nios2/kvm_para.h asm-nios2/ucontext.h asm-openrisc/shmparam.h asm-parisc/kvm_para.h asm-powerpc/perf_regs.h asm-sh/kvm_para.h asm-sh/ucontext.h asm-tile/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/ucontext.h asm-x86/hwcap2.h asm-xtensa/kvm_para.h drm/armada_drm.h drm/etnaviv_drm.h drm/vgem_drm.h linux/aspeed-lpc-ctrl.h linux/auto_dev-ioctl.h linux/bcache.h linux/btrfs_tree.h linux/can/vxcan.h linux/cifs/cifs_mount.h linux/coresight-stm.h linux/cryptouser.h linux/fsmap.h linux/genwqe/genwqe_card.h linux/hash_info.h linux/kcm.h linux/kcov.h linux/kfd_ioctl.h linux/lightnvm.h linux/module.h linux/nbd-netlink.h linux/nilfs2_api.h linux/nilfs2_ondisk.h linux/nsfs.h linux/pr.h linux/qrtr.h linux/rpmsg.h linux/sched/types.h linux/sed-opal.h linux/smc.h linux/smc_diag.h linux/stm.h linux/switchtec_ioctl.h linux/vfio_ccw.h linux/wil6210_uapi.h rdma/bnxt_re-abi.h Note that I have removed from this list the files which are generated in every exported directories (like .install or .install.cmd). Thanks to Julien Floret <julien.floret@6wind.com> for the tip to get all subdirs with a pure makefile command. For the record, note that exported files for asm directories are a mix of files listed by: - include/uapi/asm-generic/Kbuild.asm; - arch/<arch>/include/uapi/asm/Kbuild; - arch/<arch>/include/asm/Kbuild. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures

* / mm: clean up per architecture MM hook header filesLaurent Dufour2015-07-17
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 2ae416b142b6 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which doesn't need to define mm hooks. As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use of a generic header file included via each per architecture asm/include/Kbuild file. The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has to defined the arch_remap MM hook. * | mm: new mm hook frameworkLaurent Dufour2015-06-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. * arch, locking: Ciao arch_mutex_cpu_relax()Davidlohr Bueso2014-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. From Ben Hutchings. 5) Add better trace events for debugging driver datapath problems, also from Ben Hutchings. 6) Implement auto corking in TCP, from Eric Dumazet. Basically, if we have a small send and a previous packet is already in the qdisc or device queue, defer until TX completion or we get more data. 7) Allow userspace to manage ipv6 temporary addresses, from Jiri Pirko. 8) Add a qdisc bypass option for AF_PACKET sockets, from Daniel Borkmann. 9) Share IP header compression code between Bluetooth and IEEE802154 layers, from Jukka Rissanen. 10) Fix ipv6 router reachability probing, from Jiri Benc. 11) Allow packets to be captured on macvtap devices, from Vlad Yasevich. 12) Support tunneling in GRO layer, from Jerry Chu. 13) Allow bonding to be configured fully using netlink, from Scott Feldman. 14) Allow AF_PACKET users to obtain the VLAN TPID, just like they can already get the TCI. From Atzm Watanabe. 15) New "Heavy Hitter" qdisc, from Terry Lam. 16) Significantly improve the IPSEC support in pktgen, from Fan Du. 17) Allow ipv4 tunnels to cache routes, just like sockets. From Tom Herbert. 18) Add Proportional Integral Enhanced packet scheduler, from Vijay Subramanian. 19) Allow openvswitch to mmap'd netlink, from Thomas Graf. 20) Key TCP metrics blobs also by source address, not just destination address. From Christoph Paasch. 21) Support 10G in generic phylib. From Andy Fleming. 22) Try to short-circuit GRO flow compares using device provided RX hash, if provided. From Tom Herbert. * | arch: Clean up asm/barrier.h implementations using asm-generic/barrier.hPeter Zijlstra2014-01-12
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We're going to be adding a few new barrier primitives, and in order to avoid endless duplication make more agressive use of asm-generic/barrier.h. Change the asm-generic/barrier.h such that it allows partial barrier definitions and fills out the rest with defaults. There are a few architectures (m32r, m68k) that could probably do away with their barrier.h file entirely but are kept for now due to their unconventional nop() implementation.
