| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Regularly, when a new header is created in include/uapi/, the developer forgets to add it in the corresponding Kbuild file. This error is usually detected after the release is out. In fact, all headers under uapi directories should be exported, thus it's useless to have an exhaustive list. After this patch, the following files, which were not exported, are now exported (with make headers_install_all): asm-arc/kvm_para.h asm-arc/ucontext.h asm-blackfin/shmparam.h asm-blackfin/ucontext.h asm-c6x/shmparam.h asm-c6x/ucontext.h asm-cris/kvm_para.h asm-h8300/shmparam.h asm-h8300/ucontext.h asm-hexagon/shmparam.h asm-m32r/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/kvm_para.h asm-m68k/shmparam.h asm-metag/kvm_para.h asm-metag/shmparam.h asm-metag/ucontext.h asm-mips/hwcap.h asm-mips/reg.h asm-mips/ucontext.h asm-nios2/kvm_para.h asm-nios2/ucontext.h asm-openrisc/shmparam.h asm-parisc/kvm_para.h asm-powerpc/perf_regs.h asm-sh/kvm_para.h asm-sh/ucontext.h asm-tile/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/shmparam.h asm-unicore32/ucontext.h asm-x86/hwcap2.h asm-xtensa/kvm_para.h drm/armada_drm.h drm/etnaviv_drm.h drm/vgem_drm.h linux/aspeed-lpc-ctrl.h linux/auto_dev-ioctl.h linux/bcache.h linux/btrfs_tree.h linux/can/vxcan.h linux/cifs/cifs_mount.h linux/coresight-stm.h linux/cryptouser.h linux/fsmap.h linux/genwqe/genwqe_card.h linux/hash_info.h linux/kcm.h linux/kcov.h linux/kfd_ioctl.h linux/lightnvm.h linux/module.h linux/nbd-netlink.h linux/nilfs2_api.h linux/nilfs2_ondisk.h linux/nsfs.h linux/pr.h linux/qrtr.h linux/rpmsg.h linux/sched/types.h linux/sed-opal.h linux/smc.h linux/smc_diag.h linux/stm.h linux/switchtec_ioctl.h linux/vfio_ccw.h linux/wil6210_uapi.h rdma/bnxt_re-abi.h Note that I have removed from this list the files which are generated in every exported directories (like .install or .install.cmd). Thanks to Julien Floret <julien.floret@6wind.com> for the tip to get all subdirs with a pure makefile command. For the record, note that exported files for asm directories are a mix of files listed by: - include/uapi/asm-generic/Kbuild.asm; - arch/<arch>/include/uapi/asm/Kbuild; - arch/<arch>/include/asm/Kbuild. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ Upstream commit ece97f3a5fb50cf5f98886fbc63c9665f2bb199d ] simpleImage generation was broken for some time. This patch is fixing steps how simpleImage.*.ub file is generated. Steps are objdump of vmlinux and create .ub. Also make sure that there is striped elf version with .strip suffix. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit 30d6e0a4190d37740e9447e4e4815f06992dd8c3 upstream. There is code duplicated over all architecture's headers for futex_atomic_op_inuser. Namely op decoding, access_ok check for uaddr, and comparison of the result. Remove this duplication and leave up to the arches only the needed assembly which is now in arch_futex_atomic_op_inuser. This effectively distributes the Will Deacon's arm64 fix for undefined behaviour reported by UBSAN to all architectures. The fix was done in commit 5f16a046f8e1 (arm64: futex: Fix undefined behaviour with FUTEX_OP_OPARG_SHIFT usage). Look there for an example dump. And as suggested by Thomas, check for negative oparg too, because it was also reported to cause undefined behaviour report. Note that s390 removed access_ok check in d12a29703 ("s390/uaccess: remove pointless access_ok() checks") as access_ok there returns true. We introduce it back to the helper for the sake of simplicity (it gets optimized away anyway). This lets us strip everything below the IRQ entry point to reduce the number of unique stack traces needed to be stored. Move the definition of __irq_entry to <linux/interrupt.h> so that the users don't need to pull in <linux/ftrace.h>. Also introduce the __softirq_entry macro which is similar to __irq_entry, but puts the corresponding functions to the .softirqentry.text section. * | Merge branch 'strscpy' of ↵Linus Torvalds2015-10-04
|\ \ | |/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures
| * Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architecturesChris Metcalf2015-07-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Added the x86 implementation of word-at-a-time to the generic version, which previously only supported big-endian. Omitted the x86-specific load_unaligned_zeropad(), which in any case is also not present for the existing BE-only implementation of a word-at-a-time, and is only used under CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS. Added as a "generic-y" to the Kbuilds of all architectures that didn't previously have it. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@ezchip.com>
* | PCI: Revert "PCI: Call pci_read_bridge_bases() from core instead of arch code"Bjorn Helgaas2015-09-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Revert dff22d2054b5 ("PCI: Call pci_read_bridge_bases() from core instead of arch code"). Reading PCI bridge windows is not arch-specific in itself, but there is PCI core code that doesn't work correctly if we read them too early. For example, Hannes found this case on an ARM Freescale i.mx6 board: pci_bus 0000:00: root bus resource [mem 0x01000000-0x01efffff] pci 0000:00:00.0: PCI bridge to [bus 01-ff] pci 0000:00:00.0: BAR 8: no space for [mem size 0x01000000] (mem window) pci 0000:01:00.0: BAR 2: failed to assign [mem size 0x00200000] pci 0000:01:00.0: BAR 1: failed to assign [mem size 0x00004000] pci 0000:01:00.0: BAR 0: failed to assign [mem size 0x00000100] The 00:00.0 mem window needs to be at least 3MB: the 01:00.0 device needs 0x204100 of space, and mem windows are megabyte-aligned. Bus sizing can increase a bridge window size, but never *decrease* it (see d65245c3297a ("PCI: don't shrink bridge resources")). Prior to dff22d2054b5, ARM didn't read bridge windows at all, so the "original size" was zero, and we assigned a 3MB window. After dff22d2054b5, we read the bridge windows before sizing the bus. The firmware programmed a 16MB window (size 0x01000000) in 00:00.0, and since we never decrease the size, we kept 16MB even though we only needed 3MB. But 16MB doesn't fit in the host bridge aperture, so we failed to assign space for the window and the downstream devices. I think this is a defect in the PCI core: we shouldn't rely on the firmware to assign sensible windows. Ray reported a similar problem, also on ARM, with Broadcom iProc. | * | dma-mapping: consolidate dma_set_maskChristoph Hellwig2015-09-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Almost everyone implements dma_set_mask the same way, although some time that's hidden in ->set_dma_mask methods. This patch consolidates those into a common implementation that either calls ->set_dma_mask if present or otherwise uses the default implementation. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has been fixed. Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override for now. Consolidate this more broad version into common code. Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy noop. As a few architectures have much more elaborate implementations, we still allow for arch overrides. | * | dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherentChristoph Hellwig2015-09-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub them out. Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips implements them directly. This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance. Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it. This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very non-standard implementations. This patch (of 5): The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting dma_map operations. This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences: - the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including those that were previously missing them - dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature - checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one is x86 only anyway. Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided for that. | * | PCI: Call pci_read_bridge_bases() from core instead of arch codeLorenzo Pieralisi2015-07-23
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When we scan a PCI bus, we read PCI-PCI bridge window registers with pci_read_bridge_bases() so we can validate the resource hierarchy. Most architectures call pci_read_bridge_bases() from pcibios_fixup_bus(), but PCI-PCI bridges are not arch-specific, so this doesn't need to be in arch-specific code. Call pci_read_bridge_bases() directly from the PCI core instead of from arch code. For alpha and mips, we now call pci_read_bridge_bases() always; previously we only called it if PCI_PROBE_ONLY was set. * / mm: clean up per architecture MM hook header filesLaurent Dufour2015-07-17
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 2ae416b142b6 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which doesn't need to define mm hooks. As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use of a generic header file included via each per architecture asm/include/Kbuild file. The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has to defined the arch_remap MM hook.
