This function is used by sparc, powerpc tile and arm64 for compat support.
The patch adds a generic implementation with a wrapper for PowerPC to do
the u32->int sign extension.
The reason for a single patch covering powerpc, tile, sparc and arm64 is
to keep it bisectable, otherwise kernel building may fail with mismatched
function declarations.

Add lockdep annotations. Not only this can help to find the potential
problems, we do not want the false warnings if, say, the task takes two
different percpu_rw_semaphore's for reading. IOW, at least ->rw_sem
should not use a single class.
This patch exposes this internal lock to lockdep so that it represents the
whole percpu_rw_semaphore. This way we do not need to add another "fake"
->lockdep_map and lock_class_key. More importantly, this also makes the
output from lockdep much more understandable if it finds the problem.
In short, with this patch from lockdep pov percpu_down_read() and
percpu_up_read() acquire/release ->rw_sem for reading, this matches the
actual semantics. This abuses __up_read() but I hope this is fine and in
fact I'd like to have down_read_no_lockdep() as well,
percpu_down_read_recursive_readers() will need it.

percpu_rw_semaphore->writer_mutex was only added to simplify the initial
rewrite, the only thing it protects is clear_fast_ctr() which otherwise
could be called by multiple writers. ->rw_sem is enough to serialize the
writers.
Kill this mutex and add "atomic_t write_ctr" instead. The writers
increment/decrement this counter, the readers check it is zero instead of
mutex_is_locked().
Move atomic_add(clear_fast_ctr(), slow_read_ctr) under down_write() to
avoid the race with other writers. This is a bit sub-optimal, only the
first writer needs this and we do not need to exclude the readers at this
stage. But this is simple, we do not want another internal lock until we
add more features.
And this speeds up the write-contended case. Before this patch the racing
writers sleep in synchronize_sched_expedited() sequentially, with this
patch multiple synchronize_sched_expedited's can "overlap" with each
other. Note: we can do more optimizations, this is only the first step.

Currently the writer does msleep() plus synchronize_sched() 3 times to
acquire/release the semaphore, and during this time the readers are
blocked completely. Even if the "write" section was not actually started
or if it was already finished.
With this patch down_write/up_write does synchronize_sched() twice and
down_read/up_read are still possible during this time, just they use the
slow path.
percpu_down_write() first forces the readers to use rw_semaphore and
increment the "slow" counter to take the lock for reading, then it
takes that rw_semaphore for writing and blocks the readers.
Also. With this patch the code relies on the documented behaviour of
synchronize_sched(), it doesn't try to pair synchronize_sched() with
barrier.

The LP855x family devices support the PWM input for the backlight control.
Period of the PWM is configurable in the platform side. Platform
specific functions are unnecessary anymore because generic PWM functions
are used inside the driver.
(PWM input mode)
To set the brightness, new lp855x_pwm_ctrl() is used.
If a PWM device is not allocated, devm_pwm_get() is called.
The PWM consumer name is from the chip name such as 'lp8550' and 'lp8556'.
To get the brightness value, no additional handling is required.
Just the value of 'props.brightness' is returned.
If the PWM driver is not ready while initializing the LP855x driver, it's
OK. The PWM device can be retrieved later, when the brightness value is
changed.
Documentation is updated with an example.

Currently the __define_initcall() macro takes three arguments, fn, id and
level. The level argument is exactly the same as the id argument but
wrapped in quotes. To overcome this need to specify three arguments to
the __define_initcall macro, where one argument is the stringification of
another, we can just use the stringification macro instead.

This reverts commit 8fa72d234da9b6b473bbb1f74d533663e4996e6b.
People disagree about how this should be done, so let's revert this for
now so that nobody starts using the new tuning interface. Tejun is
thinking about a more generic interface for thread pool affinity.

Pull block layer core updates from Jens Axboe:
"Here are the core block IO bits for 3.8. The branch contains:
- The final version of the surprise device removal fixups from Bart.
- Don't hide EFI partitions under advanced partition types. It's
fairly wide spread these days. This is especially dangerous for
systems that have both msdos and efi partition tables, where you
want to keep them in sync.
- Cleanup of using -1 instead of the proper NUMA_NO_NODE
- Export control of bdi flusher thread CPU mask and default to using
the home node (if known) from Jeff.
- Export unplug tracepoint for MD.
- Core improvements from Shaohua. Reinstate the recursive merge, as
the original bug has been fixed. Add plugging for discard and also
fix a problem handling non pow-of-2 discard limits.
There's a trivial merge in block/blk-exec.c due to a fix that went
into 3.7-rc at a later point than -rc4 where this is based."

Some request_fn implementations, e.g. scsi_request_fn(), unlock
the queue lock internally. This may result in multiple threads
executing request_fn for the same queue simultaneously. Keep
track of the number of active request_fn calls and make sure that
blk_cleanup_queue() waits until all active request_fn invocations
have finished. A block driver may start cleaning up resources
needed by its request_fn as soon as blk_cleanup_queue() finished,
so blk_cleanup_queue() must wait for all outstanding request_fn
invocations to finish.

A block driver may start cleaning up resources needed by its
request_fn as soon as blk_cleanup_queue() finished, so request_fn
must not be invoked after draining finished. This is important
when blk_run_queue() is invoked without any requests in progress.
As an example, if blk_drain_queue() and scsi_run_queue() run in
parallel, blk_drain_queue() may have finished all requests after
scsi_run_queue() has taken a SCSI device off the starved list but
before that last function has had a chance to run the queue.

QUEUE_FLAG_DEAD is used to indicate that queuing new requests must
stop. After this flag has been set queue draining starts. However,
during the queue draining phase it is still safe to invoke the
queue's request_fn, so QUEUE_FLAG_DYING is a better name for this
flag.
This patch has been generated by running the following command
over the kernel source tree:
git grep -lEw 'blk_queue_dead|QUEUE_FLAG_DEAD' |
xargs sed -i.tmp -e 's/blk_queue_dead/blk_queue_dying/g' \

In realtime environments, it may be desirable to keep the per-bdi
flusher threads from running on certain cpus. This patch adds a
cpu_list file to /sys/class/bdi/* to enable this. The default is to tie
the flusher threads to the same numa node as the backing device (though
I could be convinced to make it a mask of all cpus to avoid a change in
behaviour).

This patch adds DMA_ATTR_FORCE_CONTIGUOUS attribute to the DMA-mapping
subsystem.
By default DMA-mapping subsystem is allowed to assemble the buffer
allocated by dma_alloc_attrs() function from individual pages if it can
be mapped as contiguous chunk into device dma address space. By
specifing this attribute the allocated buffer is forced to be contiguous
also in physical memory.

This function is intended to simplify locking around refcounting for
objects that can be looked up from a lookup structure, and which are
removed from that lookup structure in the object destructor.
Operations on such objects require at least a read lock around
lookup + kref_get, and a write lock around kref_put + remove from lookup
structure. Furthermore, RCU implementations become extremely tricky.
With a lookup followed by a kref_get_unless_zero *with return value check*
locking in the kref_put path can be deferred to the actual removal from
the lookup structure and RCU lookups become trivial.
v2: Formatting fixes.
v3: Invert the return value.

Pull MFS update from Samuel Ortiz:
"This is the MFD patch set for the 3.8 merge window.
We have several new drivers, most of the time coming with their sub
devices drivers:
- Austria Microsystem's AS3711
- Nano River's viperboard
- TI's TPS80031, AM335x TS/ADC,
- Realtek's MMC/memstick card reader
- Nokia's retu
We also got some notable cleanups and improvements:
- tps6586x got converted to IRQ domains.
- tps65910 and tps65090 moved to the regmap IRQ API.
- STMPE is now Device Tree aware.
- A general twl6040 and twl-core cleanup, with moves to the regmap
I/O and IRQ APIs and a conversion to the recently added PWM
framework.
- sta2x11 gained regmap support.
Then the rest is mostly tiny cleanups and fixes, among which we have
Mark's wm5xxx and wm8xxx patchset."
Far amount of annoying but largely trivial conflicts. Many due to
__devinit/exit removal, others due to one or two of the new drivers also
having come in through another tree.

The 'io_mutex' is not used anywhere.
The regmap API supports the mutex internally, so no additional mutex
is required.
And 'domain' private data is unnecessary because the irq domain is
already registered by using regmap_add_irq_chip().

Since the very first patch, stmpe core driver is using irq_invert_polarity as
part of platform data. But, nobody is actually using it in kernel till now.
Also, this is not something part of hardware specs, but is included to cater
some board mistakes or quirks.
So, better get rid of it. This is earlier discussed here:

I got below build warning while compiling this driver.
It's obviously RC5T583_MAX_INTERRUPT_MASK_REGS is 9 but irq_en_add
array only has 8 elements.

Use enum list for the module definitions (TWL4030_MODULE_*) which will ease
up future work with the IDs.
At the same time group the IDs in block of five so it is easier to find the
ID we are looking for (to count the number they stand for).
At the same time define TWL_MODULE_LED so client drivers can switch to use

A driver for the apb-soc registers is needed by the clock
infrastructure code to configure and control clocks on the sta2x11
chip.
Since some of the functions in sta2x11-mfd.c were almost identical
for the two existing platform devices, the following changes
have been performed to avoid further code duplication while
adding the apb-soc-regs driver:
* The sctl_regs and apbreg_regs fields in struct sta2x11_mfd
have been turned into just one array of pointers accessed by
device index.
* Platform probe methods have become one-liners invoking a
common probe with the device's index as second parameter.
* For loops have been inserted where the same operations
were performed for each of the two bars of a pci device.
* The apbreg_mask and sctl_mask functions were almost identical,
so they were turned into inline functions invoking a common
__sta2x11_mfd_mask() with the platform device's index as last
parameter. To do this, enum sta2x11_mfd_plat_dev has been declared in
sta2x11-mfd.h and more device types have been added to it.
