Current code checks IN_P3 status (i.e. USB is into U3 or not) with
dwc3_prepare_suspend() API using in_host_mode or vbus_active flag.
With data role swap transition (e.g. dfp -> ufp case), in_host_mode
flag sets to false and vbus_active flag sets to true due to quick
calling of stop host and start peripheral mode from policy engine.
This results into USB doesn't go into LPM with stop host mode (i.e.
USB LPM is aborted due to vbus_active flag seen as true) which
results into no USB enumeration in start peripheral mode. Current
code doesn't perform block reset while stopping USB host mode
functionality. Hence to invoke USB core and PHYs related reset and
init functionality allow USB LPM by replacing vbus_active check with
in_device_mode flag which provides status of USB controller's data
role while going into USB LPM. Start peripheral mode brings USB
out of LPM which performs POR functionality.

Hub driver will try to disable a USB3 device twice at logical disconnect,
racing with xhci_free_dev() callback from the first port disable.
This can be triggered with "udisksctl power-off --block-device <disk>"
or by writing "1" to the "remove" sysfs file for a USB3 device
in 4.17-rc4.
USB3 devices don't have a similar disabled link state as USB2 devices,
and use a U3 suspended link state instead. In this state the port
is still enabled and connected.
hub_port_connect() first disconnects the device, then later it notices
that device is still enabled (due to U3 states) it will try to disable
the port again (set to U3).
The xhci_free_dev() called during device disable is async, so checking
for existing xhci->devs[i] when setting link state to U3 the second time
was successful, even if device was being freed.
The regression was caused by, and whole thing revealed by,
Commit 44a182b9d177 ("xhci: Fix use-after-free in xhci_free_virt_device")
which sets xhci->devs[i]->udev to NULL before xhci_virt_dev() returned.
and causes a NULL pointer dereference the second time we try to set U3.
Fix this by checking xhci->devs[i]->udev exists before setting link state.
The original patch went to stable so this fix needs to be applied there as
well.

Corsair K70 LUX RGB keyboards also require the DELAY_INIT quirk to
start correctly at boot.

Raydium USB touchscreen fails to set config if LPM is enabled:

Same behavior can be observed on 2386:3114.
Raydium claims the touchscreen supports LPM under Windows, so I used
Microsoft USB Test Tools (MUTT) [1] to check its LPM status. MUTT shows
that the LPM doesn't work under Windows, either. So let's just disable LPM
for Raydium touchscreens.

The ChipIdea IRQ is disabled before scheduling the otg work and
re-enabled on otg work completion. However if the job is already
scheduled we have to undo the effect of disable_irq int order to
balance the IRQ disable-depth value.

Commit 7a68d9fb8510 ("USB: usbdevfs: sanitize flags more") checks the
transfer flags for URBs submitted from userspace via usbfs. However,
the check for whether the USBDEVFS_URB_SHORT_NOT_OK flag should be
allowed for a control transfer was added in the wrong place, before
the code has properly determined the direction of the control
transfer. (Control transfers are special because for them, the
direction is set by the bRequestType byte of the Setup packet rather
than direction bit of the endpoint address.)
This patch moves code which sets up the allow_short flag for control
transfers down after is_in has been set to the correct value.

a potential exploitation of the Spectre variant 1 vulnerability.
This issue was detected with the help of Smatch:

potential spectre issue 'fsg_opts->common->luns' [r] (local cap)
Fix this by sanitizing num before using it to index
fsg_opts->common->luns
Notice that given that speculation windows are large, the policy is
to kill the speculation on the first load and not worry if it can be
completed with a dependent load/store [1].

The usb standard ("Universal Serial Bus Class Definitions for Communication
Devices") distiguishes between "consistent signals" (DSR, DCD), and
"irregular signals" (break, ring, parity error, framing error, overrun).
The bits of "irregular signals" are set, if this error/event occurred on
the device side and are immeadeatly unset, if the serial state notification
was sent.
Like other drivers of real serial ports do, just the occurence of those
events should be counted in serial_icounter_struct (but no 1->0
transitions).

Ever since commit a621bac3044e ("scsi_lib: correctly retry failed zero
length REQ_TYPE_FS commands"), people have been getting bogus error
messages for USB disk drives using ATA pass-thru. For example:

These messages can be quite annoying, because programs like udisks2
provoke them every 10 minutes or so. Other programs can also have
this effect, such as those in smartmontools.
I don't fully understand how that commit induced the SCSI core to log
these error messages, but the underlying cause for them is code added
to usb-storage by commit f1a0743bc0e7 ("USB: storage: When a device
returns no sense data, call it a Hardware Error"). At the time it was
necessary to do this, in order to prevent an infinite retry loop with
some not-so-great mass storage devices.
However, the ATA pass-thru protocol uses SCSI sense data to return
command status values, and some devices always report Check Condition
status for ATA pass-thru commands to ensure that the host retrieves
the sense data, even if the command succeeded. This violates the USB
mass-storage protocol (Check Condition status is supposed to mean the
command failed), but we can't help that.
This patch attempts to mitigate the problem of these bogus error
reports by changing usb-storage. The HARDWARE ERROR sense key will be
inserted only for commands that aren't ATA pass-thru.
Thanks to Ewan Milne for pointing out that this mechanism was present
in usb-storage. 8 years after writing it, I had completely forgotten
its existence.

For various reasons, user may want to specify lower bMaxPower
using following sysfs attribute for a configuration:
"configs/c.1/MaxPower"
Driver currently ignores that and selects 500mA or 900mA based
on the connection speed. Fix this by no overriding bMaxPower
if config->MaxPower is non-zero.

When the gadget serial device has no associated TTY, do not pass any
received data into the TTY layer for processing; simply drop it instead.
This prevents the TTY layer from calling back into the gadget serial
driver, which will then crash in e.g. gs_write_room() due to lack of
gadget serial device to TTY association (i.e. a NULL pointer dereference).

When disabling a USB3 port the hub driver will set the port link state to
U3 to prevent "ejected" or "safely removed" devices that are still
physically connected from immediately re-enumerating.
If the device was really unplugged, then error messages were printed
as the hub tries to set the U3 link state for a port that is no longer
enabled.
xhci-hcd ee000000.usb: Cannot set link state.
usb usb8-port1: cannot disable (err = -32)
Don't print error message in xhci-hub if hub tries to set port link state
for a disabled port. Return -ENODEV instead which also silences hub driver.

If the user passes in a negative file size in a int64,
this will compare to be smaller than buffer length,
and it will get truncated to form a read length that
is larger than the buffer length.
To fix, return -EINVAL if the count argument is negative,

snprintf() always returns the full length of the string it could have
printed, even if it was truncated because the buffer was too small.
So in case the counter value is truncated, we will over-read from
in_buffer and over-write to the caller's buffer.
I don't think it's actually possible for this to happen, but in case
truncation occurs, WARN and return -EIO.

fotg210_udc_probe.
The patch adds deallocation of fotg210->ep array elements and simplifies
error path of fotg210_udc_probe().

usb_driver_claim_interface() disables and re-enables Link Power
Management, but it shouldn't do either one, for the reasons listed
below. This patch removes the two LPM-related function calls from the
routine.
The reason for disabling LPM in the analogous function
usb_probe_interface() is so that drivers won't have to deal with
unwanted LPM transitions in their probe routine. But
usb_driver_claim_interface() doesn't call the driver's probe routine
(or any other callbacks), so that reason doesn't apply here.
Furthermore, no driver other than usbfs will ever call
usb_driver_claim_interface() unless it is already bound to another
interface in the same device, which means disabling LPM here would be
redundant. usbfs doesn't interact with LPM at all.
Lastly, the error return from usb_unlocked_disable_lpm() isn't handled
properly; the code doesn't clean up its earlier actions before
returning.

Requesting a ZERO_PACKET or not is sensible only for output.
In the input direction the device decides.
Likewise accepting short packets makes sense only for input.
This allows operation with panic_on_warn without opening up
a local DOS.

usb_find_alt_setting() takes a pointer to a struct usb_host_config as
an argument; it searches for an interface with specified interface and
alternate setting numbers in that config. However, it crashes if the
usb_host_config pointer argument is NULL.
Since this is a general-purpose routine, available for use in many
places, we want to to be more robust. This patch makes it return NULL
whenever the config argument is NULL.

The syzbot fuzzing project found a use-after-free bug in the USB
core. The bug was caused by usbfs not unbinding from an interface
when the USB device file was closed, which led another process to
attempt the unbind later on, after the private data structure had been
deallocated.
The reason usbfs did not unbind the interface at the appropriate time
was because it thought the interface had never been claimed in the
first place. This was caused by the fact that
usb_driver_claim_interface() does not clean up properly when
device_bind_driver() returns an error. Although the error code gets
passed back to the caller, the iface->dev.driver pointer remains set
and iface->condition remains equal to USB_INTERFACE_BOUND.
This patch adds proper error handling to usb_driver_claim_interface().

Comparing an int to a size, which is unsigned, causes the int to become
unsigned, giving the wrong result. usb_get_descriptor can return a
negative error code.
